🔥 I Smoke, Drank, and Curse!

When I’m Sister Jackson, I have to sit properly, act accordingly, and obviously can’t curse in the church house. There’s a certain way I’m expected to carry myself. 😇

When I'm Professor Jackson, I must maintain a level of decorum that comes with the title. I’m expected to be knowledgeable, professional, polished, and measured in my words and actions.

When I’m Dr. Jackson, there’s another level of expectation. The title comes with respect, responsibility, and the understanding that people are watching—not just what I say, but how I say it.

When I’m Flight Attendant Jackson, I have to hold my tongue when dealing with entitled passengers who apparently left their manners at home.

When I'm Ma, Mama, Mommy, and Duchess, it comes with the greatest responsibility and that's caring for the moral well-being of my children and grandchildren. To them, I have to be everything they need and want even though I'm just one person dealing with different human beings that did not ask to be here. I must be held accountable for them, which drives me to be the best version of me that I can be.

But then there’s Dr. Duchess, my alter ego. Being called Duchess by my granddaughter morphed into Dr. Duchess over time while riding on the motorcycle scene. It's given me an outlet from all the initials behind my name. Because underneath all those titles, degrees, positions, expectations, and responsibilities is simply me. This woman has an opinion too and it's not always interested in sugarcoating it for your feelings. Sometimes I just want to say, "What the fuck you thinking?" In my head it sounds better than having to muster up the professionalism to say, "I respectfully disagree," to protect your feelings.

And if you know me…Dr. Duchess is a whole different type of vibe. 😂

I'm not necessarily pretending to be someone I'm not. Constantly performing the version of me that other people need or expect me to be is honestly draining. This is why I come home alone to my animals who loves me unconditionally with all my flaws. Sometimes, I just want to be Lisa, the introvert. No titles. No uniform. No expectations. No profession [white] voice, no perfectly crafted chosen words, and no worrying about whether somebody thinks I'm being too blunt, too nonchalant, too opinuated, too Black, too everything that doesn't agree with their ideologies. I want to just be enough for me.

🔥 I smoke. I drank. And yes, I curse.

That doesn’t make me less intellignet. It doesn’t make me less educated. It doesn’t make me less spiritual. It doesn’t make me less professional. And it damn sure doesn’t make me less of a woman. I have been accused of being to masculine, but that's the view of sexist people who lives within boundaries. I do not like to be contained by sexist views or roles.

Everything about me makes me human. I know everything about me—the good, the bad, and the ugly—and I love all of it. I’m not here to convince you to love me, understand me, or approve of me. I’m here to be me. Unapologetically.

I’ve spent a lot of years learning how to show up as the woman everybody expects me to be. But there comes a point when you have to decide whether you’re going to keep performing for everybody else or finally give yourself permission to be authentic. I can stand in a classroom and teach with professionalism, knowledge, and confidence. I can represent myself with dignity and carry my titles proudly. And then I can leave that classroom, get on my motorcycle, light up, pour myself a drank, and say exactly what the hell I want. I can sit in church on Sunday morning with my legs crossed, my back straight, my Bible open, and my mouth clean. And Monday morning? Well…the Lord, knows my heart. Can I get an Amen?😂

Both women are me.

The difference is that one is responding to the environment, while the other is simply being herself. I refuse to let a title become a cage. I earned my degrees. I earned my accomplishments. I earned the right to be called Sister, Professor, Mama, and Doctor. But I also earned the right to laugh aloud, speak my mind, be opinionated, make mistakes, have fun, be petty sometimes, and live my damn life in peace. So, if you’re looking for a perfect woman with perfect words and a perfectly curated life, you've come to the wrong blog.

This blog is AIN’T First Lady Material for a reason. Sometimes I want to inspire you, make you laugh, or make you think. Then there's times I'm not feeling inspirational. I may just need to say what's on my mind without somebody clutching their pearls like they don't pass gas in public.

Here, we’re going to discuss real life, real feelings, real mistakes, real relationships, real struggles, and real victories. I’m not trying to convince you that I’m perfect. I’m trying to remind you that you don’t have to be perfect to be worthy.

So, find you a good stick.

Pair it with a good drank.

Sit down for a good read.

And if I say something you don't like, just go on 'bout your damn business. 😂🔥
